Forsyth Missouri students are getting into the recycling act by collecting recyclables at school. Forsyth teacher Missi Hesketh has donated her time to transporting the recyclables to the County recycling center.

A December 2008 report by the Anacostia Watershed Society found that plastic bags comprise over 20% of the Anacostia River’s trash and almost half of the trash in its tributary streams. Presented with pictures of floating blobs of plastic bags in one of the District’s main waterways, D.C. lawmakers passed a 5-cent bag tax that went into effect on January 1, 2010.

The City of Forsyth has been awarded a $5,600 grant from Solid Waste District N, in conjunction with the Department of Natural Resources.
